Abstract: India’s freedom movement was not one-dimensional. It was a long-term, multifaceted and continuous struggle dependent on the people. The real strength of this movement was the growing dissatisfaction of the people against the British and the nationalist awakening. The intense desire to regain self-respect, gain rights, etc. among the people of India worked in the nationalist awakening. The intense movement that developed against the British rule from the middle of the nineteenth century was not only a movement led by the Congress alone, the movement was also attended by the largest institutions and influential nationalist leaders of India, as well as people from the common people, tribals, women, farmers, workers, students, etc. Different communities, regions, and districts of India tried to participate in this freedom movement in a unique role. In this larger context of India’s freedom movement, Midnapore district of West Bengal occupies a prominent place. In this article, we have tried to analyze the participation of Midnapore district in various movements, its spread, nature, importance and significance from a research perspective.
